Convert a Window Opening to Bifold Doors
You don't need an existing doorway to have bifold doors. Where suitable, WGS Glazing can remove an existing window, open up the wall beneath it and fit made-to-measure aluminium bifolds — across Hull, East Yorkshire and surrounding areas.
The service
From Kitchen Window To Full-Width Opening
Many homes — particularly kitchens and dining rooms at the back of the house — have a standard window looking onto the garden where a set of bifold doors would make far better use of the space. WGS can undertake projects where the existing window is removed and the wall beneath the opening is cut out to create the space needed for new bifold doors.
The result is a wide glazed opening onto the garden or patio, with the same AluK BSF70 HI aluminium bifolding doors we supply and install for extensions and new openings.
Every conversion is subject to the construction of the property, structural requirements and a suitable survey. Not every opening can be converted, and we will tell you honestly if yours isn't suitable.
How it works
The Typical Journey
Most conversion enquiries start with a couple of photographs. Here is what usually happens from there.

Send photographs and approximate sizes
A few photos of the existing window from inside and out, plus the approximate width and height of the opening you have in mind.

Initial assessment
WGS reviews the photographs and dimensions to assess the initial requirements and whether the opening looks suitable in principle.
- 03
Initial quotation and advice
An initial quotation and honest advice on panel layout, opening direction, threshold and glazing options.
- 04
Site survey where required
A survey to check the construction of the wall, what is above the opening, drainage, services and final manufacturing sizes.
- 05
Opening and conversion work
The existing window is removed and the wall beneath the opening is cut out to create the new door opening.
- 06
Made-to-measure bifold installation
Your AluK aluminium bifold doors are manufactured to the surveyed sizes and installed by WGS fitting teams.
- 07
Finishing and completion
Making good, sealing and weathering around the new doors, then a final check with you before we leave.
Structural requirements
What Determines Whether An Opening Is Suitable
Structural requirements vary from property to property and need to be assessed appropriately before any work is agreed.
- The construction of the wall and what is currently supporting the opening.
- Whether the wall is load-bearing and what structural support the wider opening will need.
- The height of the existing window sill in relation to the finished floor level outside.
- Pipes, radiators, sockets and drains that may sit within the area to be removed.
- Whether any building regulations approval or planning consent applies to your property.
Where structural calculations or specialist input are required, this is identified at survey and discussed with you before proceeding. We don't give blanket structural guarantees — each property is assessed on its own merits.
The doors
Made-To-Measure AluK Aluminium Bifolds
Conversions use the same AluK BSF70 HI system as all our bifold installations: a 70mm thermally improved aluminium system, PAS 24 tested and Secured by Design certified, double or triple glazed.
Once the new opening size is confirmed at survey, you can choose the panel configuration and powder-coated finish in the same way as any other bifold project. Integral blinds can also be specified within the glass units.
